A torrenting website has announced it will soon stop providing movie download links for free in an effort to prevent piracy.
The announcement comes on the heels of torrent sites including KickassTorrents and Mega hosting a torrent file of the film Gravity, which was recently released.
TorrentFreak reports that the torrent sites will be replacing the movie download link with a more direct link that is hosted on the BitTorrent network.
TorrentFreak writes: “The new link will direct you to the torrent file, instead of the file itself.
The new link is currently being tested in the US, but should be available worldwide by the end of the year.”
The announcement comes after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on Thursday to prevent BitTorrent sites from providing links to movies.
The bill passed with a vote of 235 to 186.
It’s also expected to pass the Senate.
The move comes after TorrentFreaks reported earlier this year that a new version of BitTorrent was created to protect against torrents by blocking links to torrent files.
Torrent Freak wrote in June that the BitRip tool, which would also be used to block links to pirated content, would be implemented by BitTorrent Inc. in March.
The tool will prevent BitRips from downloading files.
